Every year, the Society of Arts of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences invites a guest to reflect on the state of the arts. We are proud to announce ruangrupa for the Society of Arts Lecture 2022.
ruangrupa is an artist collective from Jakarta that curates documenta 15, the well-known contemporary art exhibition that takes place every five years in Kassel. Documenta is considered one of the art world's most prestigious global art events.
Documenta 15
ruangrupa has furnished documenta 15 according to the ideas and values of the artistic and economic model lumbung, the Indonesian term for a communal rice barn. Lumbung is rooted in principles such as collectivity, communal sharing of resources and equal distribution. These principles are reflected in all parts of the collaboration and the exhibition.
About ruangrupa
ruangrupa (spelled and written with a lowercase 'r', loosely translated as "art space" or "spatial form") was founded in Jakarta in 2000 by a group of Indonesian artists. They felt that in Jakarta there was a great need for both physical and mental space where artists could work intensively and focus more on means of analysis and less on means of production.

- Welcome and introduction by chairman of the Society of Arts Liesbeth Bik
- Presentation of a 6-minute short film about the concept and approach of ruangrupa for documenta 15
- Conversation between the members of ruangrupa with the audience, about the ruangrupa concept and the way of works of the collective
Moderator
Gertrude Flente is the host, artistic employee of Dokumenta 15.
