Scholten van Aschat has acted in a vast number of plays, films, television programmes and series. He has also emerged as a writer in recent years with the publication of his novella Beretta Bobcat and his scenario for the film De Poel. He has outspoken ideas about Dutch arts and cultural policy and the position of the artist.
Scholten van Aschat has received every major award. In 1983, he was awarded an Arlecchino for a Dutch-language production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Louis d'Or for his role in Decadence as well as the Albert van Dalsumring, a major award long held by Pierre Bokma. He received a Gouden Kalf award for his role in the television series Oud geld. Scholten van Aschat is also the best narrator in the Netherlands.
