Aernout Mik

  • Visual artist

Aernout Mik (born 1962) is one of the most successful Dutch artists working today and has an impressive list of international exhibitions.

In his work, Mik succeeds in making current social dilemmas palpable. The events that take place between the characters in his videos singular but arouse conflicting emotions. Mik reinforces this by creating different layers of reality, combining video with other art forms, such as performance, sculpture, photography and architecture. His work can be found in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, the Van Abbe Museum and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. In 2002, he received the Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Art.
