Ola Mafaalani

Theatre maker Ola Mafaalani worked as artistic director of the Noord Nederlands Toneel from 2009 to the end of 2016. She directed the 10-hour  stage version of Borgen in addition to such classics as Medea and Hamlet. 

Mafaalani previously worked with Toneelgroep Amsterdam, the Kölner Schauspielhaus, the American Repertory Theatre (ART) and the Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg (KVS). She believes art and society go together and she repeatedly reflects on social and political issues, such as the refugee crisis. In her view, artists should be the conscience of society.   

In 2016, she received the Prosceniumprijs for her work.
