Anthony Heidweiller

Anthony Heidweiller (born 1961) connects opera with the sounds and themes of our time, including migration, equality and inequality, and the preservation of the Earth. 

Anthony Heidweiller is director of the Academy for Theatre and Dance at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. He has a tremendous track record in performance practice, both in the Netherlands and internationally. As artistic director of the Yo Opera Festival for many decades, he focused on collaborating with new audiences. In his role as artistic director of Vocal Statements, Heidweiller developed educational and public participation projects to bridge the gap between the performing arts and multicultural society. 

He has received several awards for his work, including the Cultuurprijs for education and the City of Utrecht’s Cultuur Prijs. He is also a much sought-after artistic producer in the Netherlands and internationally. He was Artistic Associate Director of the Opera Forward Festival of the Nationale Opera & Ballet and has been associated with the Festival Aix en Provence in France since 2019.
