Michaël Dudok de Wit

Filmmaker Michaël Dudok de Wit (born 1953) is known for his award-winning animated films. The latest, The Red Turtle (2016), was a success in cinemas and nominated for an Oscar. 

Dudok de Wit studied at the West Surrey College of Art and Design (Farnham, UK). His first short film Tom Sweep (1992) was soon followed by the short animation The Monk and the Fish (1994) , which was nominated for an Oscar. The short animated film Father and Daughter (2000) won him an Oscar in the best short animated film category. It also won a BAFTA Award, the Annecy Film Festival’s Grand Prix and dozens of other awards.  

Besides his films, Dudok de Wit also illustrates children's books, with some six titles to his name. In 2002, his successful film Father and Daughter was published in book form. He also gives master classes in animation at art academies and film festivals in several countries.
